Some right old b****cks about how the Ware lot sat in a dingy pub one day and decided that it would be a great laugh to form a society for like minded people who liked to drink a lot and occassionally play golf.
Kestrel: “I can recall the general birth process, if not the actual lightbulb birth moment, of the LGW in 1996 mainly in The Albion pub, Ware – which itself sadly did not quite make our LGW 25th anniversary closing permanently a few weeks ago !! We had played many one off golf days and in early 1996 we (definitely Frazer, Andy & Stuart P, Acky and myself, maybe a couple of others on the periphery ??) decided to form a golf society. It was also at the same time as we set up The Rideher Cup between The Albion ‘Ackers (captained by Andy Procter) and a team I had got up from golfers at my work at Tesco i.e. The Delamare Duffers (captained by me). This year is the 26th LGW Rideher Cup which in my mind book ends 25 completed (1996-2021) years of LGW golf.”
